Veneers are a great cosmetic option for a range of issues with your front teeth. From discoloration to chipping, veneers can provide a polished, bright new look for your smile.
How to Decide to Get Veneers
The most important step in considering veneers is a consultation with your dentist. They will be able to provide you with personalized information regarding veneers & come up with a treatment plan that works for you. Each veneer case is different, so it’s important to have an informed decision. Just listening to friend’s & family members’ experiences may not shed much light on your own.
It’s also important to note that as veneers can be considered cosmetic, not all insurance plans will cover them. However, many offices include in-house dental plans that reduce prices for all procedures the practice offers.
What to Expect
After you’ve decided on getting veneers, there’s a little that needs to be done before getting them. First, you’ll have to have a cleaning in order to ensure the surfaces of your teeth are free of any buildup. It can also be a good idea to have the teeth not getting veneers to be whitened to the level you desire, as the veneers will be able to match that shade.
Veneers involve removing part of the tooth in order to bond a new front to it, reshaping what is known as the crown of your tooth. This is typically done with a numbing agent so discomfort is minimal. Talk to your dentist about any sedation methods available & if they are right for you.
Aftercare
Veneers can close the gap between teeth, extend teeth & provide a white new look, & you can enjoy the finished result right after the procedure. There may be some sensitivity for a few days while your mouth adjusts. You may also feel a slightly different bite, but typically this is minimal as most veneers only cover the front of your upper teeth.
Care for your veneers the same as you would your natural teeth, with regular good hygiene habits. Your dentist may recommend that you change your flossing habit to pulling the string through the space in your teeth, instead of down (or up) while the string is still between your fingers.
